I love birds and the memory that remains bold in my mind is the dawn flights of pelicans stretching in a continuous, apparently endless line from horizon to horizon as they made the morning commute to their fishing grounds. They continue to be a vivid reminder of the intensity of nature in full flight that is all too rare in our civilized world.
Their orderliness in flight as they drafted one another's slip streams in rising and falling waves and their seemingly endless numbers mesmerized me for more than an hour. And sitting on a bluff overlooking both the bay and the ocean it became easier to tune into the invisible but palpable richness of the ocean ecosystem that supported their health and abundance. Viva Laguna San Ignacio!
