After 10 Years, the Whales Still Touch Us

Ursula, Jeff and Kaleigh Foszcz

Ursula, Jeff and Kaleigh Foszcz visited the whale nursery with NRDC (and quite a representation of their clan!) in 2001.

Visiting San Ignacio was a lifelong dream of mine since I heard about the "friendly" whales in the 70's; going there was beyond any dream I imagined.

Seeing these mother whales urge their calves up to the boats to receive a touch from people that had at one time threatened them to extinction was spiritual.

New meaning was now given to the words kindness, gentleness, forgiveness and love in this remarkable haven. Looking into their eyes, you just knew this was a higher life form.

Falling asleep to the starlit sky and the gentle "whooshing" of the whales surfacing at night still comes to mind when I close my eyes - true peaceful Nirvana.

Bless all the wonderful staff at camp and the NRDC for securing this gem for generations to come.

Our blessings to you all,
Ursula and Jeff Foszcz

One of my favorite memories of our trip is of one of the last nights where the sky was crystal clear and was lit up by stars. We took the telescope out and the guides showed us many planets and constellations. That night’s images really showed me just how awe-inspiring and beautiful nature really is. It was incredibly humbling and I am so thankful for the opportunity to visit such an extraordinary place. It is filled with wonderful people who truly care about one another and the planet. My family and I are thankful for the hard work NRDC does to keep this and other places safe. I hope one day to be able to show my children this beautiful place so they can have the opportunity to have the incredible experience that I did.

Thank you!

I was there with my son, and I saw the magic in his face …the sheer joy of it has never left me, and I know it has never left my son.
