I am writing to request that you reject the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) submitted by HydroAisen to build five dams on the Rio Baker and Rio Pascua in the Patagonia region of Chile. The EIA is inadequate and incomplete and does not provide a rational basis for making a decision about the proposed dams.

HydroAisen's analysis fails to even mention, let alone fully assess, the impacts resulting from the construction of the 1,400-mile long transmission line required to carry the electricity that would be generated from the dams. It is important to consider whether the transmission line would be at risk from natural disasters and what effects the line would have on a number of important protected areas in its expected pathway.

I am also concerned that the EIA does not consider alternative sources of energy which would be more secure and less environmentally damaging than the proposed dams and transmission line.

In light of the incomplete analysis, I urge you to reject HydroAisen's EIA to build these mega dams and industrialize Chile's Patagonia region.
