Mitsubishi announces plans for salt plant

Mitsubishi goes public with plans to build the world's largest salt factory on the shores of San Ignacio Lagoon in Mexico's Baja California, the world's last untouched breeding ground for Pacific gray whales. The complex would cover 116 square miles along the shore—more than twice the size of San Francisco—introducing tankers, giant diesel turbines, the risk of toxic spills and round-the-clock industrial activity.
