NRDC launches BioGems website

On January 19, 2001, NRDC kicked off its BioGems campaign with the launch of the BioGems website, which offers unparalleled opportunities to explore -- and protect -- extraordinary natural areas in North and Central America. These regions, from Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to Costa Rica's Gulf of Nicoya, share a common trait: each is critically endangered by commercial exploitation, yet in each case, citizen action can turn the tide. Through our remarkable victory in Laguna San Ignacio and others we know that people, working together, truly can change the course of events. Building on what we have learned, and bringing together the power of people and the power of the Internet, we can -- and will -- save these endangered wild places.
