Interior Dept. rejects Catskills casino plan

The Interior Deptartment rejected a proposal to construct a mega-casino on the banks of the famed Neversink River in New York's Catskills region. The victory came after BioGems Defenders in New York sent thousands of messages to Secretary Salazar, urging him to block the ill-conceived plan. The casino would have threatened the Neversink River watershed — home to more than 130 species of birds — and drinking water supplies for millions of residents.
