NRDC blocks giveaway of Utah wilderness lands

As a result of a lawsuit filed by NRDC and our environmental partners, a federal judge ruled that more than 110,000 acres of Utah wilderness would be protected from oil and gas companies. The Bush Administration had previously held a public auction to lease these wilderness lands for oil and gas drilling, including lands next to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dinosaur National Monument, and Nine Mile Canyon. The judge's ruling prevents the Bureau of Land Management from moving forward with these leases until the full case can be heard later this year. In the meantime, we will prevail on the Obama Administration to cancel the sale altogether and return these wilderness lands to the American people.
